Firstly I wish to say what a wonderful set this is. It is playable(the roof comes off similar to the modular sets, poseable(I love surprising my visitors by placing Bagend upon my huge Tolkien collection of books), and comes with SIX minifigs(You see THREE Bilbos in the shot I sent, one from this set, one from Riddles for the ring set and one from the US Target edition of The Hobbit on BD).I'd also like to point out how great LEGO were to me upon my encountering problems making the large rose window that you see to the left on the set. I just could not get the pane to fit properly within the arches that made up the window frame. I double checked and rebuilt the window to no avail. I had a german friend whom loves Lego as much as me, but has a very german technical mind come over to see if I was missing anything. Finally I came here and appealed to Lego sensibilities. Within a week or so I received a package from Lego apologising and saying the arches in a small amount of early sets were not quite the right size that were the ones needed (never fear the set you order from here will have the correct ones to make your window).
They thanked me for telling them and also included a Penguin keyring to say sorry. You are the best. You look after us too when you make mistakes:)PROS: fun building that a father can do with his son. Hours of hobbitting/dwarving hi-jinx around the smial that is Bag End. Loads of condiments for Bombur to stuff his face with:D. Bilbos famous Party tree as described and used 60 years after The Unexpected Party in Lord of the Rings is shown growing on top of the model. Friends commonly comment on how GREEN the bricks are and how many different shades there are.Cons: Bag end could have been bigger.
Maybe Lego should do what video games devs do and make dlc so we can get expansions. The front corners of the green base plate are prone to falling apart very easily. The model needs to be designed so it is tethered together by a few more bricks so the base pieces don't come apart so easily. All in all a great buy, and great to see it in stock. I recommend this set to any Lego enthusiast/Tolkienite.

All of my children have loved Legos over the years but when the Lord of the Rings series came out we knew we'd have to collect them all. This set is incredibly detailed with many custom bricks. You really can play with it after you've constructed it (mini figs included).
My 10 year old son chose this set with his birthday money and hasn't regretted it one bit. He did note, though, that it was hard to transport from room to room as it's a bit structurally fragile and plans to reinforce it with other legos he already has.We used the site to store to purchase this product and saved nearly $15 on it and it was ready to be picked up within the hour.
This set should appeal to both Hobbit and Lord of the Rings fans because it really is a big part of both sets of movies. The build is fun, the set is attractive, the minifigures are good, and it should appeal to several age groups. Of all the Tolkien sets done by Lego so far, I predict this could be the most popular. Do not be surprised if some people have this as a desk model in the office.Bag End itself is very colorful with green, brown, and tan pieces. The design was very creative, and this definitely fits the story and mood well.
While this is not a 'battle' set, it is very cheerful in tone and there are many details which really makes this work. There are a few stickers, but they should not be too hard to apply. The door itself is printed, and it contains Gandalf's rune on it. The garden and gate design is well done. The house certainly appears to be under a hill with a tree on top and other vegetation.
Several new pieces are introduced, including the round windows. The interior is nice and cheery. There is a small kitchen setup as well as several other shelves and props.
Also included are three sticker maps of key locations for the upcoming adventure. Although this is set for the arrival of the company of dwarves, there are actually three tie-ins to the Lord of the Rings. They are: Sting mounted on top of a shelf, Bilbo's book of the adventure, which Frodo eventually completes, and a letter, which presumably contains an important item. Several food items are included with the table setting. The minifigure count is good with a Bilbo, Gandalf, and four dwarves in the company. All dwarves are unique, and each carries something different.I can easily recommend this set, at the very least collecting and displaying.
There is good playability as well for the younger kids. For those who grew up reading JRR Tolkien's books, this would be nice to have. I would even venture to state that some who do not normally buy or build Lego might want this because it is so memorable in the stories.
Likely, I will never take this apart, and will keep it safe, like that hidden object in the envelope. It looks like the Hobbit line will have some good sets, but in my opinion, this is the best one. The only other thing I think they could make that could compare would be Smaug on his pile of treasure, or maybe a really good Minas Tirith set.
Yeah, that was a shocker for many people. However please note that LOTR is a licensed line, so prices are higher than the norm. In addition, the Lonely Moundain set has that enormous dragon, which required a brand new special mould. If LEGO would have used a standard LEGO Castle dragon fans would be all upset. So we have to pick between either a standard dragon for regular price, or a new dragon but for a higher price. In general most other LEGO sets are still in the 10 cents/piece price-range or even lower, like they have been for many years (I just bought two modular building where the price/piece is 7 cents – beautiful sets!).
But yeah, for licensed sets and special moulds prices are always going to be higher due to the licensing fees and the cost of creating new moulds. LEGO doesn’t have a magic wand to create them. The cost is really more to do with the custom mold and the size of the objects than the license cost. Just look at the Dino theme that ran back in 2012. Those sets were no where near 10 cents a piece, especially the ones that had the Triceratops and T-Rex.Making the dragon brick built wouldn’t really bring down the price much either; you’d just be trading 5-10 pieces of a custom-molded dragon for 250-300 pieces of a brick built one.People need to prepare themselves for the price per piece ratio to be the same next year in the Jurassic World line.
I’m not sure what you mean. The official release date was on the 16th and that’s when they became available at official LEGO stores and the Online LEGO Shop. Some retailers may have put them on shelves early by accident, but the official release date was just a few days ago. TBB is not a news site, however with important news like this I try to post it as early as I can fit into the schedule. Again, the relase date was just a few days ago, not weeks ago as you mentioned.
Maybe you are mixing them up with the previous wave? After closely inspecting the Battle of Five Armies, I’ve decided that I like it, and I think I’ll get it instead of the Black Gate. The other sets look pretty nice as well, better than last year’s. ? Still, the Lonely Mountain’s priceI think it should have been $100, or even $120 would have worked. It doesn’t deserve that price.
?Also, yesterday was my youngest brother’s birthday, and myself and my other brothers are still disgusted at his luck. Put it this way: I want the CMF Pizza Guy, and one of my other brothers wants the Piggy Guy. So guess what Mr. Birthday Boy got. He got 6 CMFs!
? A Dino Tracker, a Prospector, a Space Miner, a Pizza Guy ❗, and 2 Piggy Guys! ? Unbelievable! And to think that he wanted the Wizard. He also got an Iron Man 3 set (76006), and the Destructoid 70726 just came in the mail. ? Sorry about the rant, but it’s quite irritating for me.
